Manner for separating a solid and a liquid phase in a mass

This text discloses a manner for separating a comminuted, tightly packed material from a liquid, with which the comminuted material is saturated. The material may e.g. consist of grinding slip, metal-containing pickling bath remains or metal oxides from metallurgical wet filters. The moist mass 1 is packed in a container 2 which subsequently is closed and heated from beneath. The liquid is evaporated beginning in the lower regions, and forces liquid from above portions towards the surface of the mass, from where collected liquid 9 may be drained. Ordinary oil barrels may be used as containers. When the liquid is removed, the containers may be charged into metallurgical furnaces, or the material may be dumped together with waste material without any harmful effect on the environment.
