Floor coating based on filled polymers and having improved sound insulating props. has on its lower surface an open structure whose depth is 2/3 - 1/4 (pref. 1/2) the thickness of the coating and whose opening surface is not >75% of the lower surface. The open structure is pref. filled with an elastomeric material opt. filled with a compsn. comprising a binder and an elastomeric filler. The coating is pref. based on PVC and opt. vinyl copolymers and fibrous fillers, e.g. asbestos and/or powdery fillers. The coating which is pref. in the form of tiles is not >1 metre in size satisfies the requirements of AFNOR S 31011 w.r.t. acoustic insulation.
