Process for the preparation of hydrophilic polyolefin fibres

Fibres of hydrophilic polyolefin bearing carboxyl groups are produced by discharge spraying. Such fibres are employed as a mixture with wood pulp for paper manufacture. The invention consists in treating these polyolefin fibres in an aqueous mixture of anionic and cationic nitrogenous polymers in order to improve the tensile strength of the paper produced. The cationic polymer is especially a product of reaction of epichlorohydrin and of an aminopolyamide or of a polyalkylenepolyamine and the ionic polymer is especially a product of reaction of glyoxal and of a polyacrylamide containing acrylic acid units.
