<p>Herbicidal phosphonates and preparation and use thereof having the general formula <CHEM> wherein R and R1 are various aliphatic or aromatic organic groups, Q is hydrogen or chlorine, X is oxygen or sulfur and R2 is alkyl, alkenyl or cycloalkyl. The compounds may be made by a variety of procedures, mostly involving the introduction or abstraction of chlorine at the 2-position. They can be formulated for agricultural use with a surface active agent and/or a solid or liquid diluent, and can be used pre- or post-emergence for controlling broadleaved and grassy weeds. They show a selective action in certain crops, e.g. cotton, soybeans and sugarbeet.</p> |
