The filling branch cap is particularly for a motor vehicle fuel tank. The branch end has a seat flange extending radially inwards with a peripheral arched sealing surface. The rounded portion of the latter forms a step joined by a curved portion forming a transition to the remainder of the surface. The cap has a peripheral sealing flange with a flat seal and bayonet-type locking devices. The seal (26) has on the side away from the cap flange (21) a curved sealing face (27) matching the arched surface (14) and/or the curved portion (15). Preferably the seal has an upright bead as its active surface, of smaller diameter but extending up to 1 mm the diameter of the curved portion.
