A heat and mass exchange column for a liq. and gaseous fluid in counterflow is divided into several sections on top of each other. Each section is divided from the next by fluid collectors and liq. distributors. The former consist of sets of funnel elements with a downward taper and their guiding walls are arranged like roofing tiles, with the bottom edge of a guiding wall of one at a vertical distance from the top edge of the next lower guide wall. Such a column has excellent mass exchange efficiencies and ensures a uniform liq. distribution without wasting any space.
