A roller bearing for supporting heavy cylindrical articles of large dia., such as a tube mill or the rolls of heavy-duty rolling mills uses between a cylindrical journal and the cylindrical or semicylindrical supporting bearing surface a number of rolling elements. These are joined to an endless strand by links like those of roller chains to keep them distant from each other. Such bearings can be produced at lower cost than conventional large-size roller bearings or sliding friction bearings. |
