The damping system (6) is for modulating, the closing movement of a large sliding door, or similar, sliding against the action of a counterweigth, spring or other force, and moved by this force for closure. It is in the form of a gear pump (7), driven by a roller (3) set into rotation when the door slides. Its two connecting branches are linked to an oil container (8). One connecting duct contains a throttling valve which is effective only during the closing process. The pump may be attached to a flange (14) which swivels about an axis (15) on a fixed bracket (16). The mechanism can be inexpensively made from standardised components, and compactly mounted without impeding passage.
