The invention relates to a method and apparatus for applying objects such as antibiotic discs to a surface (2), e.g. the surface of a culture medium, by impaling them on an axially movable needle (3), which then moves the object over an intermediate (5) surface, and through a hole (6) therein located in the feeding direction, to apply the object to the surface (2). An annular member (4), concentric with the needle, then presses the object against the surface and the needle withdrawn, followed by the member (4) to restart the cycle. <IMAGE>
