PURPOSE:The inner wall of a reformer of alcohol into hydrogen, carbon monoxide, etc. is formed with a material preventing the formation of soot, thus preventing the formation of soot under an elevated temperature atmosphere and permitting the application of alcohol to engines for vehicles and fuel cells. CONSTITUTION:For example, stainless steel is used as the base material for the major part of the reactor and the inner wall contacting with methanol is formed with the coating film of copper 3 as a material preventing the formation of soot by electrodeposition or spraying. The steam of methanol is introduced from inlet 6 and brought into cotact through fixing plate 5 with catalyst 4 to form a gas containing hydrogen, carbon monoxide, etc. The resulting gas is passed through fixing plate 5 and taken out of outlet 7 for utilization as a fuel gas. |
