PURPOSE:To prepare colistin heptapeptide having antibacterial spectrum differlnt from that of colistin, by severing the combination site of the cyclic with chain parts, using a proteinase (an enzyme hydrolyzing the colistin). CONSTITUTION:Colistin-producing bacteria, e.g. Bacillus polymyxavar colistinus, are incubated to collect a proteinase hydrolyzing colistin from the culture. The proteinase is then made to act on colistin or its sulfate to form colistin heptapeptide of the formula (DAB is alpha,beta-diamino butyric acid; Thr is threonine; Leu is leucine). |
