The electronic thermometer has a rapid response and may be used as a fever thermometer and to measure localised temps. in various parts of the body. It uses a temp. sensitive sensor which produces a voltage fed to an analog-digital converter and then to a digital display. The sensor (4) contains a silicon PN diode chip. It is in direct contact with the wall of the sensor, which is fitted with terminal leads. The sensor is connected to two electrodes. The sensor can be a flat plate or a thin tube containing the semiconductor element. There is a partitioning foil between one electrode of the semiconductor element and the wall of the sensor. The indicating element (3) displays a reading which remains visible for a number of seconds.
