The luggage container is in two half shells (2, 3) which move apart or together as required. These have a fixing and a water-tight seal to hold them together when closed. Telescopic slides (4) allow the half shells to slide along their side edges. The half shells are pivoted to allow them to tilt upwards to facilitate packing and unpacking. The top joint between the two shells is partly made by rubber. The base of the container is fixed onto the car roof in such a way that once the two cover sections are locked together, it cannot be removed.
