The ear tag is made from plastics in two parts and assembled by pushing the pointed end of one through the ear to clip into a recess in the other. The tagging pliers (17) have two jaws, the upper jaw (22) having a pin (23), inserted into the stem of one tag part (6). The point (13) on this stem is separate, made from a hard material and fits over the pin. The lower jaw (24) has a spring holder (28) retaining the other tag part (1), enabling the stem to pass through. Points drop into a receptacle (37) for re-use.
