An explosive charge is brought from a starting point (B) safe from avalanches to the breaking region (A) of an avalanche by means of a remote controlled transport vehicle, for example a helicopter in the form of a scale model. The explosive charge and a sensitive element at a minimum distance of the snow surface are assembled together into an explosive block so that the explosive charge may be positionned at a predetermined height above the snow surface. Then the charge is exploded from the start point (B) preferably by means of a captive cable.
