Mine support system using channels and vertical supports - uses domed head with hardened tip embedded into curved channel interior

The mine support system combines the use of trough section channels (3) with vertical supports. Each vertical support has a domed head (4) mounted on a cup shaped base (2) with a hole (7) for a securing bolt. Mounted on the extremity of the domed head is a hardened metal tip (5). The channels are formed into arches matching the shape of the cross section of a mine gallery, with the open mouth of the trough downwards. The hardened tip, which can be welded on, is embedded into the rounded inside surface of the channel. In another form, the tip has a cylindrical stem which is embedded into the domed head.
