The machine produces stiffening lengthwise corrugations in a thin endless strip of material as this is delivered to a processing machine, and particularly to a wrapping machine. A number of pairs of shaping strips with lands and grooves on opposite sides of the material work together, and are arranged in staggered formation to avoid transverse stresses in the material those in the centre acting on the latter first. The uncorrugated portion of the material passes between pairs of rollers. There is a first pair of rollers (25, 26) between two pairs of strips (41, 42, 45) at the centre, while behind these rollers in the material travel direction are three further pairs of rollers (28, 31, 30, 31b). A central pair of the latter is likewise between the central pairs of strips, while the others are nearer to those (40, 43, 45) at the edges.
