<p>Biological treatment of organic waste from municipal sewage or industrial waste, mixed with combustible waste such as sawdust, is based on a rectangular container in which screw conveyors near the bottom cut up and distribute the material. Air is introduced through perforated tubes under a first layer of coarse gravel, followed by a layer of fine-grained particles, produced by the screws. The surplus fine material is discharge through the centre to a conveyor. This eliminates the difficulties connected with a uniform air distribution over a circular basin. The discharged material has no obnoxious smell and can be used as fertiliser after storing it for 6-8 weeks.</p> |
