The amusement machine uses circular slide elements (5) instead of balls. Each slide element contains a mechanism which causes it to recoil energetically, whenever it touches a post or the rim of the table. The posts and the table rim are provided with contact strips, connected to an electric power supply, at the same height as the contact discs (37, 38) on the slide element. One contact disc (38) is of larger diameter and is free to move radially, so that it is moved off centre when the slide element meets an obstruction. When both contact discs are in contact with the supply strips, the solenoid (26) is energized and its armature (34) is pulled down. The cone (31) on the armature recentres the disc, and this accelerates the slide element away from the obstruction.
