The spice rack includes at least two parallel support bases for the spice jars or the like which are connected together at each end by two rods mounted stacked in parallel where they are hinged to the vertical end faces of the bases. One of the support bases is mounted for displacement in the upright position on horizontal guide rails whilst the remaining support bases are supported by the rods. The guide rails of the rack are pref. attached to the shelf of a kitchen cupboard or any other horizontal surface so that the rack can be pushed into the cupboard with its base located horizontally in sequence. The spice jars are thereby set close together to save space since the spacing of the support bases is no longer determined by the height of the largest spice rack.
