The superstructure is made at a production point sited behind the abutment, in sections. It is thrust forward into the final position across the supports, with measures taken to reduce support moments, in construction of a reinforced or prestressed concrete bridge, esp. with a number of equal spans. Over a limited length, the leading part of the superstructure is made in the form of a part cross-section, of moderate weight. This is completed to fully cross-section only on attaining the final position. No elaborate auxiliary appliances are needed, to reduce structural moment.
