Multicylinder reciprocating IC engine - has double acting pistons with transfer valves between compression and expansion sides

The engine has cylinders parallel to the output shaft, arranged in a ring round the shaft. Each cylinder contains a double-acting piston with a passage through it. One side of the cylinder has a pressure operated inlet valve and the other side has a mechanically operated exhaust valve. Air compressed on the inlet side is transferred through the hollow piston and a second, pressure-operated valve in the piston to the exhaust side. Ignition and expansion take place on the exhaust side. The pistons are connected to the output shaft by a swashplate linkage with a bevel gear.
