A container for transporting radio-active material, of the elongated shape used for nuclear reactor fuel elements. has its exterior fitted with 2 suspension lugs positioned at opposite ends of an axis which passes perpendicularly through its main (longitudinal) axis. Further suspension lugs are positioned on the same axis, but beyond each of its ends, mounted on support brackets, built out from the container surface. The portions of bracket on the surface may be formed as a ring which surrounds it completely. Tension links may be used as the means for the ring to grip the container periphery. Composed with an existing system in which transport flasks of the form concerned are slung from a system of a 4 coplanar lugs mounted at 90-degree intervals around the container axis, the construction described additionally provides redundancy when lifting the container into a vertical position, since the container may be turned into an orientation where the load at the 4 attachment points is uniformly apportioned.
|
