PURPOSE:To improve machinability, and to lengthen the life of a cutting tool by a method wherein a cemented carbide cutting chip brazed to a shank is properly ground and coated with a film with 1-3mu thickness in a signal layer or plural layers. CONSTITUTION:A cemented carbide cutting chip 1 is brazed to a shank 2 by a brazing material 3. The chip portion is ground at an appropriate angle, and covered with a single layer 4-1 or compound layers 4-1, 4-2 of a hard film. A coating layer consists of a carbide, a nitride and a carbonitride of titanium, zirconium, hafnium, vanadium, niobium and tantalum, and is coated as the single layer or the compound layers. The life of a cutting tool is lengthened because the cutting tool does not contact with a material to be cut by the existence of the said coating layer. |
