DETERGENT COMPOSITIONS

Powdered alkaline fabric washing compositions are based on 10% to 30% mixed sodium tripolyphosphate and alkali metal orthophosphate detergency builders with not more than 5% of alkali metal pyrophosphate. These mixtures are equivalent in detergency building capacity to higher levels of sodium tripolyphosphate alone, and thereby enable decreased phosphate levels to be employed for environmental reasons without having to use supplementary non-phosphate builders.
