In an apparatus for cleaning the door or door-frame of a coke-oven, it is known to have a tool frame carrying cleaning tools. In this invention, the tool frame is moved towards the door or door-frame in a freely-suspended condition which enables it to be moved into the correct position in relation to the door. The tool frame is provided with centering and stopping means which ensure that the tool frame bears against the door in the desired position, A drive means secures the tool frame to the door and actuates the cleaning tools which engage the surfaces to be cleaned.
