The connector for a coded credit card (10), comprises a connector body (20) with a chamber (21) into which the credit card (10) is inserted in a given direction and containing a pair of jaws which grip the working edge of the credit card (10). The jaws are guided for movement in the direction of insertion of the credit card (10) between a rest position and a working position, in which at least one jaw pivots relative to the surface of the credit card (10) to grip its working edge. The movement of the jaws is prompted by the insertion of the credit card (10). Pref. one jaw is defined by a fixed part of the surface of the chamber (21) with the other pivoted jaw (19) moving towards the rear of the chamber (21) with its top surface in contact with a sloping guide face (276) and caused to pivot by the force of repulsion between two magnets (28, 36) associated respectively with the upper wall, of the chamber (21) and the jaw (19). The latter carries two contact springs (39a, 39d) which contact the upper faceof the inserted credit card. |
