Between the ends of two rail vehicles which are coupled to one another and have a double buffer arrangement (4A, 4B), an intercommunicating gangway device (2) is located. It contains a gangway floor plate (16) which is arranged below the upper edge of the buffer and above the drawbar hook. The gangway floor plate (16) consists of two gangway floor plate components (20A, 20B) which are pivotably mounted, and of two floor plate flaps (22A, 22B) which are also mounted pivotably. The floor plate flaps (22A, 22B) are intermeshed in a finger-like manner in the pivoted-down position, in which case the gangway floor plate components (20A, 20B) are supported on them. The two gangway floor plate components (20A, 20B) and the two floor plate flaps (22A, 22B) are identical and narrower than the buffer spacing of the double buffer arrangment (4A, 4B). By virtue of the intercommunicating gangway device which is designed in this way, the height of the floor in the passenger compartment can be located at or below the height of the buffers of the double buffer arrangement (4A, 4B). This guarantees for example in the case of a railway platform height of approximately 1 metre above the upper edge of the rail, a safe intercommunication between the ends of the vehicles even when travelling round relatively tight bends. <IMAGE>
