The remote control mechanism for adjusting the external rear view mirror on a vehicle, permits the mirror to be swung to left or right and tilted up or down. The operating handle consists of a hollow outer member (27a) integral with a resilient cup (27) fitted into the door (15), and projecting inside. This encloses a spindle (14) extending from a block (8) swinging within a spherical seating surface (1a) of a unit (1) mounted between the door sheet (2) and the window (6). This swinging block has three recesses (8b) around its edge, which hold three operating cables (9, 10, 11) connected to the mirror. These pass through a retainer (22) held away from the unit (1) above by spring pressure, which has three recesses to retain the ends of the outer sleeves (24) around the cables.
