<p>The process is used to obtain roughly hewn funeral vases in granite or similar. The first phase entails cutting or boring a hollow cylindrical core from a granite block. The core has a uniform hollow circular cross section and a closed end, its barrel then being imparted with the vase contours by using a two parts milling operation. An expandable mandrel may enter the bor to secure the core on the lathe. The primary milling operation entails the cutting of a stepped (16) profile. The secondary operation removes the steps (16) from the barrel profile (17).</p> |
