A reactor pump chamber, pref. spherical or ellipsoidal internally comprises hot-formed steel ring-sections, each pref. seamless, welded one to another. The intake ring section, pref. coaxial with the pump, and which may also contain the impellor system, and the section forming the flange at the opening for the pump assembly, may be welded or integral with their adjacent chamber sections. The latter may be integral with each other or be separate hemispherical shells with a joining line which lies obliquely to the pump axis, such that the delivery pipe and the intake section, (both pref. seamless) are each joined to a different 1/2-shell. Pre-stressing cable anchoring ring sections may be mounted over the intake, delivery and pump-entry orifices of the chamber, such that the cables may traverse the chamber external surface horizontally and vertically, with this surface covered by grooved plate for seating the inner of these 2 cable layers. The design allows use of a tough heat-treated steel, the hot shaping of which precludes persistence of cavities. The near-spherical form reduces stress-peaking due to internal pressure. Weld seams can be few and located in moderately stressed positions which allow of simple non-destructive testing methods.
|
