Emergency brake for car - has extending suction pad to grip road and connected to inlet manifold

An emergency braking system has an extending suction pad (1) under the centre of the car and linked to the inlet manifold (3) via a control valve (4) which losses off the normal air intake and causes the air to be drawn from the pad. A pivoted lever pushes the pad onto the road surface after the brake pressure reaches a set level. The brake operates only during heavy braking. A safety valve (5) in the vacuum line to the pad ensures that the suction force does not exceed a set level. For enhanced suction effect the emergency braking control is interlocked with the throttle to increase the engine speed momentarily.
