<p>Starch derivs. are prepd. by (a) allowing NaOH, H2O, with grain size 0.3-0.01 mm., to act on native starch with a natural or slightly reduced water content, in a dry and finely divided state, for 1-20 mins. at 5-80 degrees C., followed by (b) alkylation. Use of large amts. of water or organic solvent is avoided. The starch does not become pasty. Starch derivs. are obtd. directly in powder form. The prods. are used as thickeners and bonding agents for aq. systems, in pharmaceutical prepns., as textile aids, and as paper size.</p> |
