The tone arm arrangement for a disc record player embodies a straight tone arm (1) bearing the stylus head at the free end and a lifting lever (3) about a third of the way along and near the pivot point (2). The lifter lever component is attached to a hand grip (4) which moves down the side of the record player platform; the hand grip (4) moves along a linear scale (5). Between the hand grip (4) and the lever (3) is an elbow shaped link mechanism with an intermediate joint so that the translatory movement of the grip may be converted into a rotary movement of the lifting lever (3) which has a projection moving in an arcuate guide slot.
