The flanged coupling is for securing pipes or fittings to other pipes. The flanges are either loose or fixed to the pipes and screwed or clamped together. The face of the flange away from the join has a ring (1) with a number of indentations (1a) round the periphery, between which the ring has a smooth sloping surface.
