The setting mechanism moves machine components, particularly deflector tongues in rolling mills, between two end positions. It comprises two power accumulators (8', 8") acting in opposite directions on the tongue etc (1)., and which are preferably pre-loaded (9'.9") independently of each other, together with a brake (15) holding the tongue in one or the other of the end positions. The accumulator moving the tongue out of the particular end position is locked in its starting position by the brake, and at the same time pre-loaded by an external setting force (12).
