A steering column lock has a key- operated barrel rotatably mounted in a housing (4), said housing (4) being retained in a fixed body member (2) by a retainer member (10) a portion (12) of which is secured to the body 16 member (2) and a further, plate portion (14) of which extends through an aperture in the body member (2) whereby one end of said plate portion (14) is received within a circumferential groove (8) in the outer surface of the barrel housing (4). Co- operation between said one end of the plate portion (14) and the sidewalls of the groove (8) prevents removal of the housing (4) from the body member (2). <IMAGE>
