PURPOSE:To prevent the cracking of a monolithic catalyst retained in a container, by securing thin metal bands on the peripheral surfaces of both the axial ends of the monolithic catalyst. CONSTITUTION:Thin metal bands 6 are secured under appropriate surface pressure on the peripheral surfaces of both axial ends of a monolithic catalyst 2. As a result, the cracking of both axial ends of the catalyst is eliminated or greatly reduced. If annular thin metal sheets 7 are integrally provided on the end faces of the thin metal bands 6 and coated on the peripheral parts of the end faces of the monolithic catalyst 2, the cracking resistance is raised further. |
