PURPOSE:To realize change of color presentation in three kinds, by attaching color phase difference plate to 90 deg. twist liquid crystal layer and 45 deg. twist liquid crystal layer, and holding them with polarizing plate and reflecting plate, and using nematic crystal liquid of which dielectric anisotropy is positive. CONSTITUTION:This is to fabricate a liquid crystal display device which is constituted in the sequence of, from the light source side, polarizing plate 1, substrate, 90 deg. twist liquid crystal layer 2, substrate, 45 deg. twist liquid crystal layer 3, substrate color phase difference plate 4, and reflecting plate 5. When electric field is not applied to any liquid crystal, absorption by dye of phase difference plate 4 or interference of plate 4 does not occur; when electric field is applied only to the liquid crystal layer 2, natural light absorption of the dye of phase plate 4 occurs. When electric field is applied only to the liquid crystal layer 3, mixture coloring of interference coloring of the phase difference plate 4 and absorption coloring by the dye is presented. When electric field is applied to the liquid crystal layers 2, 3 simultaneously, the same color as when electric field is applied to the liquid crystal 3 alone is presented. Thus, in the same liquid crystal composition, three kinds of color display can be presented. |
