In a method of loading pallets with goods, e.g. crates 7, the crates are fed to a feeding station (1) by a conveyer (6), Fig. 2 (not shown), and a complete layer of crates is assembled at this station and transferred on to a carriage 2 which conveys them to a position above a vertically reciprocable pallet platform 3. When the carriage returns towards the feeding station a stripper 16 removes the layer which falls on to a pallet 17 on the platform, whilst simultaneously at the feeding station a new layer of crates is assembled which, when the carriage returns, is immediately deposited thereon. The feeding station includes a pair of cantilever arms 8, pivoted at 9 on to which are fed a layer of crates, one row at a time, by members 12 on a chain conveyer B. On return of the carriage 2, which is recessed to receive the arms, the arms are tilted to deposit the layer on to it.</p> |
