Alpha-vinyloxazolines(I, R1 and R2are H, methyl, ethyl; R3 = H or C1-4 lower alkyl) were prepd. by treating oxazoline ether compd. (II, R = C1-4 lower alkyl) with a strong bases selected from alkali metal hydride, C1-4 alkoxide and hydroxide at 0-220≦̸C. Thus, 13.0 g oxazoline derivs. (III), 0.3g anyhydrous sodium methoxide and 0.2 g phenothiazine were reacted and heated at 70 mm Hg to give I.
