The residual deviation of an adjusting member from a stipulated position is compensated for. The adjusting member is driven by a control signal. A correcting signal corresponding to the residual deviation is added to or subtracted from, the control signal depending upon the direction of movement with which the adjusting member approaches the stipulated position. The correcting control signal is added to the control signal increasing until the stipulated position is reacted, while it is subtracted from a control signal decreasing until the stipulated position is reached. The electrical control signal can be fed to the adjusting member (2, 3, 4) via a summer. A detector can sense the direction of change of the control signal. The detector controls the summer.
