Protein-rich animal feedstuff prodn. - by fermenting vegetables in presence of e.g. ammonia or acetic acid

Animal feedstuff is prepd. from whole or chopped vegetables by converting their carbohydrate to protein using yeasts or bacteria in the presence of minerals or synthetic chemicals (e.g. ammonia or acetic acid). The method allows more efficient use of synthetic fertiliser. 1000 kg of turnips or sugar were cut up. H2O was added to give a fluid mass and the prod. boiled 140 mins.. 250g Na2HPO4 and 0.5-4 kg ammonium acetate were then added. After cooling a protein yeast culture was added and fermented in a compressor with aeration and stirring until no more ammonia could be detected (ca. 1-5 days). The prod. was protein-rich and suitable as pig food.
