The tree trunks are fed longitudinally along a fixed horizontal path (A) in the processing appts (1). The processing appts adn a branch-lopping device (6) at its input are mounted on a common base (4). The height of the looping device can be adjusted according to the thikness of the trunk. Thus the middling of the trunk (C) can be kept level with the feed path (A) and the trunk can be fed into the processing appts. while branches are still being lopped from it.
