Alloy cast iron with high resistance to wear and abrasion - contains high percentage of chromium together with nickel and titanium

The iron contains by wt. 3-3.5% C, 0.6-1.5% Si, 0.8-1.5% Mn, 23-27% Cr, 3-3.5% Ni, 0.6-1% Ti, the remainder being iron and impurities. An iron is obtd. with increased resistance to impact abrasion, for use in the mfr. or repair of machine parts such as the teeth on bucket excavators or dredgers; the working surfaces of hammer- or crushing- plant; rock boring tools etc. The machine parts are mostly made or repaired via electroslag remelting of the iron. This type of iron is employed as a low cost replacement for diamond or hard metals.
