[Also in Division B8] A creased or scored folded carton blank which has been formed into a partially complete or complete carton from a flat blank initially comprising a support layer of box-board capable of absorbing low viscosity wax and having on the whole of one surface thereof a barrier layer of a moisture resistant flexible sheeting, e.g. polyethylene or aluminium foil secured to the support layer by an overall coating of wax lying therebetween, the folded blank having been formed from this blank by steps which include local melting of the wax coating layer while one portion of the sheeting material overlaps another portion thereof at the locality at which said melting takes place, the overlapping portions being such as to adhere to one another as the result of the local heating, and the locally melted wax being absorbed by the box-board, and then cleanly stripping the box-board from one of the overlapping portions. Figs. 4-7 show the steps of forming a blank with end flaps into tubular form, Fig. 5 showing the boxboard portion 17 stripped from the barrier layer 11 at the site of the local heating, while the layer 11 is fused to the portion of itself it overlaps so as to leave no raw edge. Fig. 8 shows the steps A-E of folding and heat sealing the end flaps 26. Fig. 9 shows the closure at one end, the end flap 25 being stripped from its barrier layer 11 during the closing. |
