Machine for generating involute curves

A machine for generating or testing involute gear tooth flank profiles effects relative rolling of the base circle of a workpiece along a tangent on which lies a point on a tool or stylus. Very precise involutes are described by electronic feedback control of the roll ratio. The electronic control counts pre-selected batch sizes of pulses generated by respective angular and rectilinear displacements of the machine which together make up the roll, and compares the two batch signals so as to derive from them a single phase error signal which controls at least one of the motors producing the displacements.
