<p>A charge couplet device having a meandering charge transfer path is disclosed. The device includes two channel stops each comprising a long band portion from one edge of which project similar short portions. The channel stops are disposed with their long portions in parallel spaced relation and their short portions interdigitated, thus defining a meandering charge transfer path. An asymmetric depletion layer may be formed in each area of the charge transfer path which is bounded by two adjacent short channel stop portions. This can be done by varying the thickness of the insulating film over the area or by varying the impurity concentration of the substrate. A signal can be extracted from a side of the device by providing an outwardly projecting channel portion and this permits the device to be modified for use as a transversal filter or an imaging device.</p> |
