PURPOSE:To improve the yield of steel product, by reducing the section area of the square biller with the former stage universal mill, by cutting this square billet into the specified size, by cutting away the shape defective part at the end of individual rolled material, and by executing the rolling work for reducing the section area with the latter stage universal mill. CONSTITUTION:The square billet with desired section area is prepared by the continuous casting machine 7; this billet is cut into proper size by the cutter 8 consisting of the upper and lower cutting edges 8a, 8b; and the rectangular billet, 19(A) for example, is obtained. Next, this rectangular billet is passed through the former stage universal mill 4 in order to double, for instance, the length of the rolled material; this billet is then cut into two halves by the shear 9, in which the shape defective part at the end of the rolled material, that is so called crop, is cut away simultaneously; following to this, the rolling work for the rolled material is continued by the latter stage universal mill 5. As a result, the amount of the crop to be cut away can be halved. This method is especially economical as the manufacturing method for various steel materials, and the product yield can be improved by about 0.7-0.8%. |
