Screw actuated engineering vice - uses rib runners in grooves to guide mobile jaw runners lying in planes which intersect screw

The vice is suitable for use in engineering or joinery workshops ect., utilising a movable jaw (3) of which the sliding is guided by rib runners (8, 9, 10) sliding in grooves. The arrangement ensures that the active jaw face is at all times normal to the direction of sliding, the ribs occupying orthogonal planes which intersect the screw (4) axis. The screw (4) traverses a threaded jaw (3) bore and is rotated to effect jaw displacement. Ribs may have a rectangular section, may be parallel, may be provided in a horizontal (8, 9) and a vertical plane (10), may be interal with the jaw or the base block (1), and may run in grooves (6, 7, 16) of reciprocal section. The base (1) may have a 'U' section for rigidity, and the rib (10) may be offset from the base centre line to accommodate a single wide window (12).
